Early Beginnings

A Journey of Passion and Purpose

My love for reading and writing began at a very young age. My mother loves to tell the story of a kindergarten parent-teacher conference where my teacher complained that I never wanted to go outside—I just wanted to read all day. Books were my world, and I found endless joy in the stories they held.

Growing up, my dad was an avid reader who always encouraged my siblings and me to read. He frequently took us to the bookstore to buy books, and whenever we had a question, he directed us to some type of book or reading material. His passion for reading was infectious and greatly influenced my own love for books.

I remember summers at my grandparents’ house where my cousins and I would walk a little less than a mile to the library almost daily. We would stay there for hours, and I would get lost in so many books. I loved the escape of it all, to really feel like I was in the world of the book I was reading.

My dad also played a significant role in my introduction to financial literacy. I got my first bank account at nine years old, and he would sit us down to teach us how to save. My savings journey actually began with my grandmother, who was part of a club that saved money throughout the year to have a lump sum for Christmas presents. I participated in this tradition every year, learning the importance of saving early on.

Becoming an Author

I became an author almost accidentally. I was jotting down words daily and then I suddenly realized I was writing a book. “Deception: The Devil Hears Your Prayers Too” was actually the very first book I wrote almost two decades ago. I wasn’t sure how to publish with a background in science. I took some classes, and that’s when I decided to do it myself. I had no idea that a hobby would grow into what it has today.

As I grew, my passion for storytelling only deepened. I turned my love for reading into a career, authoring 25 children’s books that bring financial literacy to life for young readers. My goal has always been to make complex financial concepts accessible, fun, and engaging for kids. Seeing their eyes light up as they grasp these important lessons is incredibly rewarding.

Founding Kash Kids

In college, I was in a lot of debt and had student loans too. My senior year, I let my bills go to collections, unaware of the consequences. When it affected me finding a job, it took me two years to fix my credit. My friends asked me to help them, and that is how Kash Kids started. I figured if kids had the foundation of money, just as I did as a kid, then even if they fell off the wagon as I did, they could get back on with the foundation of knowledge.

Driven by my passion for education and financial literacy, I founded Kash Kids. This program is dedicated to teaching K-12 students essential money management skills. Through interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and real-world applications, we are helping children build a strong financial foundation for their futures.

Nurturing Young Writers

One of my greatest joys is helping young writers find their voices. Through the Young Writers Program, I have had the privilege of mentoring hundreds of children, guiding them on their journey to becoming published authors. There is nothing quite like seeing a child hold their own book for the first time and knowing I played a part in their achievement.

Prindle House: A Commitment to Diversity

At Prindle House, we are committed to producing high-quality educational content that reflects the diverse world we live in. Every child should see themselves represented in books, and we strive to create stories that celebrate diversity and inclusivity.

Beyond the Professional

When I’m not writing or working with Kash Kids, you’ll find me enjoying nature, exercising, or tending to my garden. I love to laugh and spend quality time with my family, and I cherish the simple joys in life. My favorite days are when I have absolutely nowhere to be (which these days are almost never) and I can have a do-nothing day. It is so rewarding. Sleep is such a luxury and we fight it so as children. My lifelong love for reading and writing continues to inspire everything I do, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my passion with others.
